Challenged Child and Friends, Inc. Results and Effects of Early Intervention • Challenged Child services improve the quality of life for children with special needs and their families
• The professional staff helps children with special needs and their families to 'learn to live' to 'discover information' and 'try activities' that improve functional, educational and social skills.
• The agency is successful when children and their parents show an ability to generalize improved skills into daily living situations in their family, school and community.
• When the child makes progress, it is a mutual achievement for the child, family and our professional team members. This team process provides experiences that help parents in future partnerships on behalf of their child.
Effect on the child: The earlier the intervention, the more effective for the child's development. The rate of learning and development is most rapid in the preschool years. The child may have difficulty learning a skill later, after the period of maximum readiness has passed.
Effect on the family: Early intervention can prevent a family from falling apart from the impact of the problems caused by having a developmentally delayed child. Families feel isolated, disappointed, economically stressed, frustrated and helpless. Early intervention programs can provide improved attitudes, increased information, teaching skills and more time for work and leisure. Effect on society: Early intervention provides society with maximum benefits. The child has the potential to be a taxpayer instead of a tax-user. The family has increased abilities to cope with an exceptional child, and perhaps, increased abilities for employment resulting in both financial and social benefits. The increase in performance and the decrease in frustration prevents delinquent behavior.
